As a master luthier himself, Scott works tirelessly in training other luthiers who in turn train the factory workers. This constant push to educate and train the next generation of string luthiers holds true to the world’s finest standards of the trade. The Scott Cao Signature Superior Violin is made by his top luthiers under his tutelage in his Morgan Hill, California workshop.
Scott Cao Signature Series
The Scott Cao Signature Series violins are made by Scott’s top luthiers inside his Morgan Hill, California workshop. These are crafted using only the finest woods, expert detail to attention and are entirely made in the USA. The Signature Series is available in 2 models:
-
- Signature – Made by one of the luthiers in the workshop
- Signature Superior – Higher grade woods, made by Shi Liao (top luthier) & Scott Cao
Effectively, the Superior model is made by Scott’s best Luthier in the workshop, Shi Liao, with additional finishing done side by side with Scott Cao himself. This yields the best quality instrument in the lineup.
Paganini’s “Il Cannone”
The Cannon / “Il Cannone” is one of the most inquired about models in the Cao Artistic series. Customers are interested in it due to the connection with Paganini. The original Cannon, the “Il Cannone” has a storied history with Paginini who referred to his Guarneri del Gesu violin as “my cannon violin” in reference to the powerful, explosive sound that the violin was able to produce. The original Cannon uses taller sides and a thicker top than many violins. This extra mass helped make the Cannon possess its dark yet clear tone that projects with great ease. This can make an instrument very favorable for the player with a stronger bow hand.
The Scott Cao Signature Superior Cannon is one of the most impressive violins that we have ever encountered. This setup can be both delicate or powerful while maintaining a sweet and complex tone at all dynamic levels. This instrument is a lifetime violin for the player who yields it, turning it in to their own “cannon violin” just as Paginini did his Il Cannone.

Desert Aged
Being based in the desert of Las Vegas, we have a very unique ability to let instruments “age”. As string instruments age and the wood dries, the instrument will improve over that time. However, as these instruments dry in our desert climate of Las Vegas, this process of aging occurs much faster than most areas of the country.
This aging gives you an instrument that is more vibrant, responsive and more stable as a result of this aging!
We do make sure to monitor our instruments and make any necessary adjustments that are needed as a result of this process prior to shipping to you.
Trial / Return Policy
In Home Trial
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy on the Scott Cao Signature Superior Cannon Violin. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition). We know that you need to be able to test the instrument to make sure that it is the right instrument for you. We carefully package the instrument so that it arrives safely to you.
Please note that when we ship the instrument, we wrap the bridge and the tailpiece in tissue paper so that IF the bridge were to fall down in shipping, no damage occurs to the instrument. We do not ship the violin with strings under full tension but there is enough tension to keep everything in place while in transit. If you do decide to return the violin, please make sure to follow the same guidelines so that the instrument is returned in the same condition it was sent out.
Please read our terms & conditions (link at the bottom of the page) for full details on this policy.
