Scott Cao 850 Cannon Violin – Artistic Series
Scott Cao has built an amazing reputation among the finest players and teachers throughout the world. Instruments bearing his name are always of the utmost quality in performance and craftsmanship. The Scott Cao 850 Cannon Violin is part of the Scott Cao “Artistic Series” instruments. These instruments are each made in honor of historic violins and violin makers.
As a master luthier himself, Scott works tirelessly in training other luthiers who in turn train the factory workers. This constant push to educate and train the next generation of string luthiers holds true to the world’s finest standards of the trade.
Scott Cao 850 – Cannon Model
The Scott Cao 850 Cannon is one of the most inquired about models in the series. Customers are interested in it due to the connection with Paganini. However, the Cannon uses a unique design that makes it a truly special violin. The original Cannon uses taller sides and a thicker top than many violins. This extra mass helped make the Cannon possess its dark, clear tone. This can make an instrument very favorable for the player with a stronger bow hand.
The Scott Cao version of the Cannon has been modified slightly to balance out this performance style while still staying true to the Cannon tonal characteristics. This setup is ideal for advancing players who want more dynamic control and desire the ability to “push” their instrument more, while keeping a rich, colorful tone!
Additional Information
Scott Cao Artistic Series
The Scott Cao Artistic Series violins are made in tribute to historic violins of the past. Seeking to provide you with an instrument with a hint of the performance character, both in performance and aesthetics, the Artistic Series instruments replicate the dimensions of these famous violins as well as the unique cosmetic elements.
Artistic Series Models – 750 | 850 | 950
In the GuangZhou workshop of Scott Cao, Scott is teaching a whole new generation of luthiers. The top luthiers in this shop are responsible for the Artist Series violins models 750 & 850, as well as the body manufacturing for the 950 (which is then varnished and setup in California). The 750/850 instruments are excellent value models, whereas the 950 is the finest model that is produced in this facility. The Cao 950 violin is then transferred to Scott’s Morgan Hill, CA studio to have the varnishing and setup done by the workmen in the USA.

Desert Aged
Being based in the desert of Las Vegas, we have a very unique ability to let instruments “age”. As string instruments age and the wood dries, the instrument will improve over that time. However, as these instruments dry in our desert climate of Las Vegas, this process of aging occurs much faster than most areas of the country.
This aging gives you an instrument that is more vibrant, responsive and more stable as a result of this aging!
We do make sure to monitor our instruments and make any necessary adjustments that are needed as a result of this process prior to shipping to you.
Trial / Return Policy
In Home Trial
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy on the Scott Cao 950 Violin. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition). We know that you need to be able to test the instrument to make sure that it is the right instrument for you. We carefully package the instrument so that it arrives safely to you.
Please note that when we ship the instrument, we wrap the bridge and the tailpiece in tissue paper so that IF the bridge were to fall down in shipping, no damage occurs to the instrument. We do not ship the violin with strings under full tension but there is enough tension to keep everything in place while in transit. If you do decide to return the violin, please make sure to follow the same guidelines so that the instrument is returned in the same condition it was sent out.
Please read our terms & conditions (link at the bottom of the page) for full details on this policy.
