Kessler Custom Full Conservatory, Composite Oboe
70% Wood / 30% Nylon Composite – Full Convservatory
Oboe can be a beautiful instrument. Sadly, many students are actually hindered by the oboe that they are using. Due to the high cost, many students and players have to rent a student oboe, but they end up getting an inferior instrument in a rental program that is often not regulated properly and simply doesn’t play well. Our Kessler Custom Composite Oboe is the solution.
Full Conservatory Key System
Our Kessler Custom oboes offer a full conservatory key system. This includes:
- Left Hand F
- Low Bb (with vent)
- Triple Octave (semi-automatic, US standard)
- Articulated C#
- Full Ring System D Key
- D-C Banana Trill
- Left Hand G#-A Trill
The bore design of our Composite Oboe is based on a professional French design. While this is a more complex bore than a student oboe, the lighter weight of the all composite material provides a player with the perfect balance of response, tonal color and intonation.
Our Composite oboe is made from a Grenadilla & Nylon composite. This material gives the tonal warmth of a wood oboe, but provides the stability of a plastic oboe. This material gives our composite oboe the best balance of tonal performance & response coupled with durability & affordability.
Cork Pads Throughout
Our Composite oboe is setup with natural cork pads throughout the whole instrument. The cork pads offer exceptional life, stability and durability. They are a wonderful fit on the composite oboe due to the machining stability of the toneholes on the composite material.
Every Kessler Custom oboe we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on any oboe is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, an oboe (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours!
This is why we perform our setup in our ProShop on your oboe before delivering it to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your new oboe setup flawlessly!
While our composite material performs exceptionally well, better than plastic, the extra weight of a wood oboe still will produce a richer tone. For players who want as rich of a tone as possible, we offer our Full Conservatory Oboe in a “Hybrid” model. This model retains the all composite upper joint (to prevent cracking) but switches to an all wood lower joint and bell. The lower joint and bell also feature full metal lined sockets. Both of these features add mass on to the oboe helping it to produce a richer tone while maintaining the upper joint’s composite material durability; all at a price still in line with student oboes!
