The Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax is revered by many as the best saxophone ever made. While much of this is a personal opinion, one cannot argue that the Mark VI is surely among the all time best with virtually every major professional player throughout sax history performing on the Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax. Made continuously from 1954 through 1974 (with altos and tenors being made through 1976’ish & the baritone, soprano & sopranino made in to the early 1980’s), many players will group the earlier production among the best made and the highest performing of the Mark VI history.
Serial 192,682 – Original Lacquer, No High F#, Overhauled
This particular Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax is serial number 192,682 and has almost all of its original lacquer in tact. It is a model without a high F#, which we feel is a beneficial thing for a Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax as it allows the air column to stay uninterrupted by a tonehole chimney a little longer inside the horn. We find that, regardless of vintage, that Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax models without the high uninterrupted resonant, thicker tone. It’s a Medium Bow model.

This horn originally came to us in 2012 in need of an overhaul. Being an Official Selmer Paris ProShop, this horn received our premier “ProShop Overhaul” service (a $1,500.00 job) so that we could offer someone an amazing Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax that blew away expectations! This overhaul brings the horn to the highest level of mechanical stability and performance. In this overhaul, we seek to maintain the purity of the Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax performance and combine it with the solidity and response of the finest manufactured saxophones of today. In brief, this job includes:

But it was overhauled in 2012… how good is it now?
This overhaul provides exceptional stability. The horn itself was overhauled in 2012 but was owned by a tenor player who bought it to start playing alto. He played alto for a little bit and found out that alto wasn’t for him and put it in the closet where it sat for 10 years. He brought it in to us to sell for him and since it was stored in a dry climate with no real use, it sat just fine! We had to make a few routine adjustments and re-lubricate some of the mechanism, but it really feels like a fresh overhaul and thus ready to amaze!
